Summer Reading and Math Awards Assembly

At Pierce, we have a strong community that is nurtured by many well loved traditions. Each year we come together many times to celebrate many different things and music is always central to these events. This October, we had our annual Reading and Math Awards Assembly on Halloween. Students were recognized for their academic accomplishments in grades 1-6.

Ms. Greco's 1st and 2nd graders sang and performed several songs. The 5th grade also performed three different pieces singing and playing xylophone and percussion instruments. Midnight the Math Cat made an appearance to recognize the class with the highest number of students who had completed both their reading and math.

Ms. Hamilton and Ms. Borg-Re, as two wicked, witchy sisters, shared jokes and stories with us. Students and teachers wore creative costumes and we celebrated the season in style!

6th Grade Folk Tale Projects

This is an example of one Folk Tale Project completed by the 6th grade last spring. In Arrow to the Sun by Gerald McDermott, a boy searches for his father, the Sun, and discovers his own strength and courage as he is challenged along the way. Students volunteered for different roles in the production of this story. They worked collaboratively to compose themes for main characters and rehearse each one. They created movement for dramatic effect, and developed costumes, scenery and props for key characters and events in the story. They all worked hard to put these elements together for our finished product.
